Bike Jumps

Before you get on a dirt dike for your first time you want to make sure you have the proper safety equipment like helmet, gloves, goggles, pants, etc. You don't want your first experience on a dirt bike to be a bad one when you could have prevented an injury by wearing proper safety equipment. The first thing you need to know before you get on a dirt bike is how to start it.

When you're straddling the dirt bike before you sit on it, put the kick stand up while hold the bike upright with both hands on the handlebars. Hold in the clutch and on your right side there will be a lever you push down with your foot. It may not work you first time as you aren't sure the force you need to use to get it to turn over. However, after a few times it should turn over.

Dirt bikes are off-road bikes specially designed for off-road events. In comparison with the regular road motorcycles, dirt bikes are simpler, lighter and feature perfectly in long suspension travel, high ground clearance. The rugged construction with little framework and no fairings compensates for less damage in spills. Wheels (usually 21" front, 18" rear) have knobby tires, often clamped to the rim with a rim lock.

There are different kinds of dirt bikes for different motorcycle sports events such as:

Motocross

These bikes, also known as "scramblers" are raced on short, closed off-road tracks with a number of obstacles. The motorcycles have a small fuel tank for lightness and compactness. Long-travel suspension feature allows riders to take jumps at high speed. Motocross engines are usually single-cylinder two-stroke or four-stroke units, which vary in size from 50cc up to about 650cc. Motocross sidecar features includes, bigger engines, usually with four-stroke and twin-cylinders. Motocross bikes are also used in Freestyle Motocross.

This article concerns everyone who just bought a pit bike online and are wondering what to do after assembling it!

Most manufacturer manuals and other sources will tell you the same thing about running the engine for the very first time:

Do not run your bike at more than two thirds of its full throttle and avoid high rpm's during the first two hours of running. Often you are advised to drain the oil AFTER these two hours and use quality semi synthetic 10W40 4-stroke engine oil.

Because I just got myself a two new ssr pit bikes , I was browsing a very reputable pit bike forum (pitbikeclub.co.uk) looking for some info on assembly and breaking in and I stumbled upon some VERY valuable info. This article is a short summary of a newsletter article I found written by Motoman. Motoman is a very experienced superbike tuner who has his own newsletter (Power News Magazine).

This article "Break-In Secrets" is very controversial.

"Links to this article now appear on hundreds of motorsports discussion forums from all over the world. The reason is that over time, large numbers of people have done a direct comparison between my method and theowner's manual method, and the news of their success is spreading rapidly."
